Voices from the Vanguard is an annual lecture series launched in 2006 in which international experts are invited to discuss the top issues surrounding global health and health disparities.
The series is a joint effort created by Patricia Thomas, the former Knight Chair in Health and Medical Journalism in UGA’s Grady College, and Daniel G. Colley, professor of microbiology and director of UGA’s Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases.
Among the many notable participants include: Victoria Hale, Ph.D., an award-winning scientist who in 2000 launched the first non-profit pharmaceutical company OneWorld Health, Dr. Eric Ottesen, who directs the Neglected Tropical Diseases Support Center in the The Task Force for Global Health and Jim Yong Kim, former director of the World Health Organization’s HIV/AIDS unit and current president of the World Bank Group.
